A former test pilot and aeronautical designer Owen Maclaren, created the first Maclaren buggy in 1965 with production starting in 1967. The revolutionary lightweight, 3D fold design continues to be an important and timeless prototype for the industry today.

Maclaren is moving to one global safety standard so that all maclaren buggies will meet or exceed the highest safety requirements mandated anywhere in the world. From 2012 this includes a protective head and foot barrier on all birth models, a permanent universal 5 point safety harness and a handle with a tether strap.
